Selene nasceu de uma família húngara. Seu pai era um ferreiro famoso que ajudou a projetar um grande caixão de ferro para um general chamado Viktor. Esse caixão era um calabouço destinado para aprisionar o primeiro lobisomem, William Corvinus, condenado por seu comportamento sangrento e destrutivo, e para manter o primeiro Vampiro, Marcus Corvinus, irmão gêmeo de William, sob o comando de Viktor. Após ‘supostos’ Lycans terem matado sua família, Selene foi a único que restou viva que sabia onde estava a prisão de William. No entanto, ela não sabia que sua família fora assassinada por Viktor, e sim que ele a havia salvado dos lobisomens. Viktor a teria matado como fez com sua família, mas a semelhança de Selene com sua querida e falecida Sonja era forte demais. Ela está acostumado com muitas armas, tanto medieval quanto as modernas calibre 38. Entre suas favoritas está a Walther P99 e uma variedade de pistolas-metralhadoras automáticas.
Suas habilidades também são impressionantes, considerando seus saltos mortais de mais de cem pés de altura, e aterrissagem sem nenhum arranhão. Uma manobra tanto quanto felina, ou apenas vampiresca para os mais instruídos. Selene possui grande força também, podendo matar um vampiro jovem com poucos golpes, tomar tiros e ainda assim continuar de pé, como espancar quatro policiais como se estes fossem bonecos de pano.
As resistências de Selene são as mesmas de qualquer vampiro de idade avançada, sendo que, apesar de tudo, tem que se esconder da luz do sol. Mas isso muda, pois depois que ela recebe sangue de Alexander Corvinus no segundo filme, ela é capaz de resistir a luz solar diretamente.
Seu parceiro incondicional é o Michael Corvin, o adorável médico-híbrido, com qual chega a ter relações sexuais, gerando uma garota vampira-Lycan que terá aparição no quarto e tão esperado filme da saga Underworld.QUOTES:
